On a 5 mile straightaway outside of Battle Mountain, Nevada, alien looking bicycles slice through the desert at speeds well over the legal speed limit. The University of Toronto Human-Powered Vehicle Design Team is a student organization who's goal is to push the limits of human-powered design. The video shows the 2011 "Vortex" at the World Human-Powered Speed Challenge at Battle Mountain. The team came in 3rd overall in 2011, boasting a top speed of 116.9 km/hr. The world record is currently held by fellow Canadian Sam Whittingham in the Varna Tempest at 133.28 km/hr.
